The Rwanda Tennis Federation, on Friday, December 3, provided equipment to schools in Bugesera district, in a bid to promote the game among youngsters.
The equipment includes 25 rackets, 96 balls and two nets.
Speaking about the development, Richard Mutabazi, the Mayor of Bugesera District said he was pleased with the partnership with the federation, assuring them of support in promoting the game.
"We appreciate this support. We assure you that we will support this program as much as possible,” he said.
He said the district has good grounds for the development of the game, for example schools where tennis can be played, in addition to private sector facilities which have tennis courts.
"We have a lot of schools in the area. We have the infrastructure, except for a stadium. We also have a private sector, for example, hotels that have built their own tennis courts,” he said.
Theoneste Karenzi, the President of the Rwanda Tennis Association told Times Sport that the reason for the support was to promote young tennis talents.
It is part of the Juniors Tennis Initiative (JTI) Program, an initiative that the federation embarked on to appeal youngsters in various parts of the country to play the game.
"So we have introduced this program in various schools in Bugesera because they were the ones who expressed interest first,” he said.
