Ernst & Young Rwanda have thrown their weight behind Emmanuel Ruterana ahead of next week’s Bujumbura Open. The auditing firm, one of Kigali Golf Club (KGC)’s loyal partners is bailing out the country’s leading professional golfer with a handsome package for the three day event which gets underway on April 29.
"We were approached by KGC and agreed to help him out in any way that we can,” the firm’s managing partner Grumit Santokh said.
Ruterana has not played much golf since February when he lost his long-time sponsors BCR.
The Bujumbura Open is expected to attract both amateur and professional golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Meanwhile, England’s Gary Boyd defied the odds to win this year’s Tusker Kenya Open. Despite consecutive bogies on the 11th, 12th and 13th holes on the final day (Sunday), the right-hander stroked 13 under par to beat his closest challengers Philip Golding and Andrew Butterfield by four shots.
South Africa’s David Hewan was the continent’s top player with seven under par.
The Frw 182 event also counts as the second competitive event on the European Challenge Tour.
