Volleyball: APR, REG drawn together in taxpayers’ tourney

Men

Group A: APR, REG and Gisagara

Group B: ex-UTB, Kirehe, KVC and IPRC-Ngoma

Women

Group A: UTB, RRA and St Aloys

Group B: APR, Ruhango, KVC and IPRC-Huye

Reigning champions APR have been drawn in the same group with rivals Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in the upcoming taxpayers’ volleyball tournament.

Sponsored by the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) as part of the celebrations of the taxpayers’ month, the competition will take place from Saturday, November 27 to Sunday, 28.

It will attract 14 teams – 7 in the men’s category, and 7 in the women’s.

Gisagara, IPRC-Ngoma, KVC, Ex UTB, REG, Kirehe, and APR are the men’s teams that will take part in the tournament, while Ruhango, RRA, IPRC-Huye, KVC, Ex UTB, St Aloys and APR are the women’s teams that will participate.

In each category, the teams have been divided into two groups.

In the men’s category, Group A includes Gisagara, APR, REG, while Group B has ex-UTB, Kirehe, KVC and IPRC-Ngoma.

In the women’s category, Group A consists of UTB VC, RRA VC and GS St Aloys Rwamagana while Group B includes APR VC, Ruhango VC, KVC VC and IPRC Huye.

The tournament group stages will be held at Amahoro indoor stadium and Maison des Jeunes – Kimisagara, while the final is expected to take place at the Kigali Arena.

The best two teams in each pool will advance to semi-finals with the final scheduled for November 28.

According to the FRVB, the prize money for the winning team will be Rwf 2 million, while the runners up will walk away with Rwf 1.5 million. 

The third-placed team will bag Rwf 1 million.

More than 25 million will be invested in the tournament which is meant to appreciate tax payers in the country.
