Editor,
I am just back from a one week stint in Nairobi and I am glad that the traffic here is still ‘decent’. Anyone who has been to Nairobi or Kampala lately can attest to the terrible jams – a waste of man hours and fuel.
Travelling to and from work for example is becoming a job on its own. How these Cities got there, I just don’t know. That is why I am a bit concerned that if not careful, Kigali may get stuck in the same jam, literally.
In the 18 months that I have been here, I have noticed considerable build up of traffic along the Sopetrade and Kisimenti areas, especially at peak hours.
Though it is still a long way from the two-hour jams in the other East African capitals, the difference is noticeable. I hope that the relevant authorities will do whatever it takes to ensure that travelling within Kigali remains a pleasurable experience or at least a fast one.
