ESTHER BRIANE GATEKA BYUKUSENGE best known as DJ Briane is elevating her deejaying career as a female DJ by going international. She recently performed in Nigeria, Lagos at the AFRIMA Awards 2021 and will soon perform Sierra Leone in ECOFEST.
DJ Briane came into the spotlight during the Covid-19 first lockdown inspired by the need to entertain people while at home. She learnt more about the music mixing business which she was a big fan of and later on became a good one.
Speaking to The New Times, she said, "This is such an amazing career and I can proudly say that one can make a living from it and still manage to tend to their family as well. Some people despise it while others respect this profession but being a DJ is a career like any other.”
Now DJ Briane has been in Lagos, Nigeria since Wednesday, November 17, where she was the DJ at the Welcoming Night as well as the official event of the AFRIMA Awards 2021 that took place at the Eko Hotel.
This is an opportunity that Briane confirms to be the door opener for Rwandan female Deejays, "This is so amazing and we all should be celebrating it, since it is taking the Rwandan female deejays’ name to the international level as well as opening some more doors forward.”
After the AFRIMA Awards 2021, DJ Briane is also expected to spin the decks during ECOFEST which will take place in Sierra Leone on November 26. All these opportunities, she says, came from Platini P and his management team, One Percent.
A Rwandan producer, known as Element Eleee and Platini P who performed in AFRIMA Awards 2021 event, are among the Rwandans who are in Lagos with DJ Briane. Together still, they will go to Sierra Leone for the ECOFEST this coming weekend.
"I would like to tell everyone to never disrespect any kind of career that someone else does, because we all can’t do the same job, we need to understand and respect diversity. To the fellow females who love this kind of profession but are afraid to step out of their comfort zones, please leave the fear aside and try it out. I am so sure that you will make it and not even the sky should be our limit,” she advised.
