NORTHERN PROVINCE

The Rwanda Patriotic Front-RPF on Sunday elected the newly appointed governor of the Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe, as the new provincial party chairman, replacing Boniface Rucagu; the former governor.

Bosenibamwe, was the sole contestant, but the general congress members went ahead to vote through secret ballot for a Yes or No before announcing the winner.

Opportunity Uwamariya, was elected to the post of secretary/treasury, replacing Winfred Nyirihirwe who resigned the post last year after citing personal reasons.

Domitilla Mukantaganzwa, who represented the RPF Secretariat at the elections, hailed the outgoing chairman for his great contribution in building the good image and winning more members to the party.

Calling for capacity building among members, she challenged party members to work more and speak less, in order to ensure good service delivery.

In his acceptance speech, Bosenibamwe, pledged to ‘build on the good establishments’ and ensure that the party members play a big role in the economic development and good governance at all levels of society. He also promised that efforts geared at fostering unity, and uprooting genocide ideology in the province would be upheld.

Handing over the mantle, Rucagu highlighted party achievements during his tenure, which ranged from good governance, economic development, welfare and justice.

He handed over all the party documents including RPF’s accomplishments in the north, rules and regulations statute and office keys, and presented executive members of the party before the general members.

The function was graced by at least seven RPF Members of Parliament.
