WESTERN PROVINCE

RUSIZI—A Rwandan soldier and a young woman have been found dead with bullet holes to the head in Kagarama cell, Mururu.

Corporal Emanuel Muramutsa, 31, shot one Janet Uwamahoro, 23, to death and then himself in the early morning hours of Monday October 15.

Muramutsa, from the 77th battalion, shot Uwamahoro with three bullets to her head, dying instantly, inside battalion headquarters between 5:45 and 6:00 in the morning.

According to eye-witness reports, Muramutsa and Uwamahoro slept together at the battalion at around 10:25 in the evening of October 14.

Security sources say that the motive and cause of the murder has not yet been identified, though it is though the soldier was under the influence of alcohol.

It is also reported that the two were in a romantic relationship with each other.

This is not the first case; only the most recent.

Last week, Captain Jean Claude Senzira, also from the 77th battalion, shot three people; Damascene Ngirinshuti who died instantly; Julius Katushabe, and Rajab Kakooza.

The latter two died later at Gihunwe hospital to where they had been rushed.

Captain Senzira shot dead the three men after a quarrel during a billiard game at a local bar.

Captain Senzira is currently being detained at 501st battalion headquarters in Rusizi district and is to face courts of law at an undisclosed date according to security authorities in the area.
