Volleyball: REG’s Angiro sets sights on playing overseas after impressive KAVC tournament

After enjoying an impressive KAVC tournament, a regional competition where he starred as the Most Valuable Player last month, Gideon Angiro, a volleyball player for Rwanda Energy Group (REG) says he is looking at the big picture of playing overseas.

The 23-year-old Ugandan attacker led REG as it won the trophy in the men’s category, in a competition that attracted clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, and Tanzania, as well as Rwanda from August 2 to 4 in Kampala, Uganda.

"I have been working hard to improve my level. I will keep on working hard. I don’t want to just play in the region,” Angiro told Times Sport.

"I am happy with the way I played this tournament and I thank God for this level. I want to keep moving forward because I haven’t reached where I want to be,” he added.

Angiro features on the long list of Ugandan players who have crossed the border to play professional volleyball in Rwanda in the past years including Kathbart Malinga, Daudi Okello and Savior Atama and more.

Angiro has previously played for Nemostars and KCCA in Uganda but also tried out a pro stint in Albania.
