Renowned photographer Pacifique Himbaza is in Berlin-Germany where he is holding an on-going photo exhibition about energy transition in Africa, at the Rwandan embassy.
The five-day photo exhibition which started on November 1, and will run through November 5, aims at sensitising masses on the definition of energy access and the wide spectrum of work done by different stakeholders in Rwanda.
Himbaza has been in the photography industry for over 10 years, under Ingazo Art Cafe where he showcases his work, both photographs and videos.
He told The New Times that the whole idea of the exhibition was to use arts to raise awareness about finding solutions for energy problems in Africa.
In addition, he said that he uses social media to present his art to the intended audience and to showcase his work and sell photos.
This led to the idea of working with the University of Rwanda and various stakeholders to improve the photography process, and present it to the Rwandan Embassy in Germany.
They are photographs that highlight Rwanda's uniqueness in its vision of building a start-up economy.
The Rwandan Ambassador to Germany, Igor Cesar, welcomed the idea of highlighting art that is unique from Rwanda.
"As Rwandans, we are very pleased to welcome this exhibition. It's an opportunity to showcase what needs to be done in terms of energy so that it can be discussed with all parties, including the Germans,” he said.
He added that the issue was important because it was put on the agenda of the Conference on Climate Change known as COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland.
The exhibition was organised in collaboration with the University of Rwanda through its Centre for Energy for Sustainable Development (African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development, ACE-ESD), TUB Institute for Energy Engineering and HEDERA Sustainable Solutions.
It is expected that in this exhibition photos, audio and video will be used to highlight some of the activities and partners in finding solutions to the problems of both natural and renewable energy.
The exhibition is designed to hear the testimonies of stakeholders explaining the importance they see in the various activities of energy development partners in Rwanda.
It is held every day from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Rwandan embassy in Germany, up to it's closure day November 5.
Through Color Play Ltd, Himbaza said that he plans to continue in countries, including Belgium and France to showcase the good image of Rwanda in photographs
