The Churchill Show, a leading and long-running television programme in Kenya, will host renowned Rwandan gospel musician Israel Mbonyi for a live concert recording on Friday, August 9, veteran comedian Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki announced.

Mbonyi has been in Nairobi, Kenya since Wednesday to headline the Africa Worship Experience at Ulinzi Sports Complex this weekend. This will be the Churchill show’s first live recording event since its return to NTV from TV47 last month.

Churchill, often considered the father of modern comedy in Kenya, states that Mbonyi will perform tonight at the Churchill Show at Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi.

The event, he said, will also feature performances by Kenyan celebrities including the likes of Stemple Simple Boy, Captain Otoyo, Prof Hamo, and many others.

"Many people have asked me the difference between live recording and TV shows. The experience is different, we will have lots of food, drinks, laughs, and fun. This will be more than just comedy,” Churchill said in an Instagram post.

The Churchill Show has featured top Kenyan comedians including Eric Omondi, MC Jessy, Eddie Butita, and Professor Hamo, among many others who left the show to advance in their comedy journey.

Mbonyi is currently making headlines ahead of the Africa Worship Experience, where he’ll perform alongside Kenyan stars including Pitson, Karura Voices, Timeless Noel, Destiny Voices, k-Krew Worship, Adonage Band, and DJ Gee Gee.

After Kenya, the Rwandan star will head to Uganda for a music tour that will kick off in Kampala on August 24 at Millennial Grounds Lugogo, and end in Mbarara the following day.

His concert in Kenya coincides perfectly with the success of his album in Swahili, which continues to make waves in the country and the region at large.

The album holds hit tracks including ‘Nina Siri’ that gained close to 60 million views on different streaming platforms and won the attention of music lovers from Swahili-speaking countries, including former Vice-President of Kenya, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, who posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) singing and dancing to the song.

In 2023, Mbonyi’s entry into Swahili music, through ‘Nina Siri’, marked a significant expansion of his musical repertoire and influence. This expanded his musical impact beyond Rwanda, touching lives across the East African community.
