EARNING YOUR MARK: Rwandan international striker Elias Uzamukunda has put pen to paper on two-year professional contract with French side FC Nantes.

Rwanda and APR striker Elias Uzamukunda has signed a two-year professional contract with French Ligue 1 club Nantes Fc, Sunday Sport reliably reports.

According to the player’s agent Aimable Twahirwa, Uzamukunda signed the contract in the presence of APR chairman Brig. Gen. Alex Kagame and Nantes Recruitment Officer, Moussa Soumah.

However, efforts to get the exact amount of money involved in the deal proved futile as all parties involved preferred to keep transfer fee a secret.

Nantes sent their recruitment officer on the African continent, Moussa Soumah early this month to finalise the transfer of the left-footed APR striker.

In an earlier interview with this paper, the Senegalese born scout said that it only took him 45 minutes to spot Uzamukunda during the African Youth Championship match between Mali and Rwanda.

"His quality, ball skills, ball protection, speed, physical capacity and his skillful passes was all that he needed to be on the list of players I was interested in,” Soumah said of the Rwandan international.

"I didn’t know that I would find a Rwandan player with such quality. Originally, I was meant to scout on players from Cameroon, Mali, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

For the start, the 19-year-old will play in the Nantes’ reserve team to prove if he’s worthy promotion to the first team set-up.

The ex-AS-Kigali forward passed trials at French Ligue 1 club early last month. He was accompanied by team mates Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Mugiraneza but the latter returned home after their trial at Le Havre.
