Rwanda Energy Group Women basketball club go head-to-head with The Hoops Rwanda on Friday in game 1 of the best-of-three playoff finals at Kigali Arena.

It will be a clash of egos between the two sides in the national women basketball league with The Hoops’ heads held high as they look to start their title defense while REG seek to win a league title in their debut season.

"We want to win this [league] title, and we are going to fight for it no matter what,” vowed Esperance Mukaneza, head coach of REG women BBC.

Our target is to win the first game and then build on that momentum for the next match. We need to be at our best in the first game which will give us an advantage in the next game,” she added.

In separate interview with head coach of the Hoops Patrick Habiyambere said that

"This is the closest we have ever been to the league title, and my players understand well how important these games are. We will approach each as a do-or-die affair.”

The finals will be played in a "best of three series” format where the two opponents will play two games against each other, and if one wins both, it will be declared champion.

Should they get tied on one win each, they will play a third match which will be the ultimate decider of who will claim this year’s title.

Meanwhile, defending champions Patriots resume their rivalry with REG at Kigali Arena on Friday, October 29, as they face off in game one of the men’s Basketball league finals from which the champions will win an automatic ticket to represent Rwanda at next season’s Basketball Africa League which returns in Kigali next year.
