US-based shooting guard Kenneth Gasana has jetted into the country to link up with fellow players of Patriots basketball club ahead of the league playoff semifinals that will take place on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 at Kigali Arena.
The experienced shooting guard, 36, has been a key part of the team as they have been making strides in local basketball League, for which they are the current defending champions.
He mainly stays in the USA but usually flies in to play for the team especially during the advanced stages of the league, when competition tightens.
Times Sport has learned that he arrived in the country on Wednesday night.
Last year, Gasana was one of the players that were key as Patriots Basketball Club qualified for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2021 inaugural season unbeaten after winning all their nine games in the qualifiers.
He was also a key figure for the team as they reached the semi-finals of the BAL inaugural season that took place in Kigali in May.
A reliable source from the club’s top management said he is expected to play this Saturday when the team faces APR in the first game of the Playoffs.
"Gasana is already on the Patriots list and that is why he will play all these Playoffs," the source who preferred to remain anonymous said.
The four teams set to compete for this year’s title are league champions Patriots, REG, APR, and IPRC-Kigali.
Defending champions, Patriots, will face-off APR while REG will battle it out with IPRC-Kigali.
