Rwanda will for the first time participate in the 25th edition of the African men’s handball championship from January 13 to 23, 2022 in Morocco.

The local handball governing body, (Ferwahand) Permanent Secretary, Joel Niyokwizera said the African Handball Confederation (CAHB) awarded Rwanda a ticket to represent Zone 5.

It will be Rwanda’s first time to compete in the tournament since it was established.

"After the recent reopening of sports activities, we have started with beach handball but we will organize other tournaments in the next few months so that we can prepare the players,” Niyokwizera said.

The federation is planning to organise the Rwanda Cup that is expected to run from 23 to 31 October.

"We need them to be ready for the continental competitions and expect to start residential in December,” he added

This is the first time the senior national team will compete in a continental tournament since 2015 in Ethiopia when they competed in the qualifications of the Africa nations championship.
