The 2024 Rwanda Super Cup duel between APR FC and Police FC is expected to be a great game for football lovers.

Held annually, the Super Cup is played between local league champions and winners of the Peace Cup.

This year’s edition is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 at the Kigali Pele Stadium.

The game finds the two teams in a more competitive position, having made great recruitment of players in the ongoing transfer window.

In this article, Times Sport takes a look at five new players that fans should look out for in the game.

-Issah Yakubu (Police FC)

A no nonsense centre back, Yakubu signed for Police from Malian giants Stade Malian who reached the quarterfinals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup.

Yakubu is a strong centre back with great defensive abilities. He is good in aerial duels and has netted a number of header goals in his career.

Yakubu has already given Rwandan fans a taste of what they can expect from him as he netted a goal against Uganda’s Maroons FC during a pre-season friendly game.

Mamadou Sy (APR)

Mamadou Sy (APR)

The Mauritanian striker proved to be a great finisher with two sublime goals as APR FC reached the finals of the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

Sy previously featured for Nouakchott Kings in his home country, where he was their top marks man. He is very versatile and a good reader of the game. His greatest asset is running into spaces and latching onto through balls.

Richard Kilongozi (Police FC)

The Burundian winger was the heartbeat of Kiyovu Sports in the 2023/24 season netting 9 goals as the Green Baggies finished in 7th position.

Kilongozi on any day is a handful for any lateral defender. His pace, accelerating runs and his precise finishing will be a worry to APR FC.

Richard Lamptey (APR)

The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko showed his real quality with a sublime pass for APR’s equalizer against SC Villa in the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

It is likely that coach Darko Novic might start him against Police as he needs a great passer of the ball to feed Sy or Mbaoma in attack.

One moment of brilliance from the talented left footed playmaker can decide the outcome of the game.

Seidu Yussif Dauda (APR FC)

The energetic defensive midfielder has been in fine form since his move from the Ghanaian Premier League champions Samartex FC in July 2024.

Dauda won the man of the match awards in his first start for APR FC which was against SC Villa in the CECAFA Kagame Cup and seems poised for more.

He will be one of the players that Police FC will need to deal with if they are to beat APR on Saturday.
