Inspector-General of Police Dan Munyuza Monday morning hosted Lieutenant General Teo Luzi, General Commander of the Italian Arma dei Carabinieri, at Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kigali.
Also present was the Italian Ambassador to Rwanda Massimiliano Matsanti, in a meeting that aimed to cement cooperation between the two Police forces.
Lieutenant General Luzi, alongside his visiting delegation, will be in Rwanda for three days.
According to the Carabinieri top official, his pledge is part of the broader context of supporting the security forces most engaged against the global threats to security and stability.
"The relationship of collaboration and the bonds of brotherhood and sincere friendship that have been established between our staff are the distinctive feature of cooperation that has reached levels of absolute excellence," said General Luzi, adding, "Which I'm sure will continue towards more ambitious goals."
Strengthen cooperation
In his remarks, IGP Dan Munyuza stressed that RNP and the Italian Carabinieri have had a very strong and successful partnership since 2017.
"Our partnership has been able to thrive, building on a strong foundation of many years of friendship between Rwanda and Italy. We have been able to work together for the benefit of peace and security of our two countries and beyond."
Particularly, Munyuza said, RNP has benefited a lot from the experience and expertise of the Carabinieri.
He pointed out that RNP is grateful …for the support especially in capacity building, citing that since 2017 over 900 Rwandan police officers have benefited from training offered by the Carabinieri both in Rwanda and in Italy.
"Your visit today is another demonstration of your continued commitment to strengthen our cooperation and to take it to a higher level."
He is was optimistic that RNP will, with no doubt, continue to work with the Carabinieri in the areas of sharing experience, training and capacity building.
