After calling off two events early this year, the National Rally Championship is finally set to roll off with a rally sprint next month.
According to reports from Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC), the motorsport governing body, the sprint is scheduled for May 23.
"We finally hope that the national rally championship will start next month,” a RAC official revealed yesterday.
In February, a rally sprint was called off because of low entries while last month’s rallye du Nord was also called off due to bad weather.
Early this year, seven events had been programmed for this year’s championship but that number could now reduce to five. Although Davite Giancarlo is struggling to find his rhythm on the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC), the national rally champion is optimistic to defend his national title.
After years spent in the shadows of Rudy Cantanhede (2007 & 2006), Elefter Mitraros (2005) and Tony Saegerman (2004) among others, Giancarlo finally won his first national title last year.
Tony Saegerman and Olivier Costa are some of Giancarlo’s challengers for the national title.
