Two Rwandan hotels, One & Only Gorilla’s Nest in Musanze and One & Only Nyungwe Forest Reserve in Nyamasheke have been ranked among the world’s top 50 resorts in 2021, by the US magazine, Condé Nast Traveler.
According to the magazine, the hotels were ranked 25th and 26th on the list, respectively.
Condé Nast Traveler is a luxury and lifestyle magazine published by Condé Nast. The 34th annual research for 2021 list released on Tuesday, was created based on reader reviews.
Besides Rwanda mountain gorillas as the major tourist attraction, "the nature treks in Rwanda aren't your average roll-around-in-a-Jeep safari. They often involve hours of hiking, up steep volcanic slopes and on occasionally muddy trails. Which is to say, the people who are coming here are the adventurous types.’’
Additionally, it’s nestled within a working tea plantation at the edge of the pristine Nyungwe Forest National Park, this luxury lodge is one of the most upscale hotels in Rwanda. Plus, it gives you easy access to the park's population of chimpanzees, monkeys, and other wildlife,’’ the magazine highlighted
The survey further noted that the One & Only Ruhengeri Gorilla’s Nest is the last of a trio of lodges in the foothills of the country’s Virunga Mountains where the primatologist Dian Fossey worked the much smaller Bisate from Wilderness Safaris and Kwitonda from Singita are nearby.
The other destinations named include France, Maldives, Hawaii, Oman, Mexico, Thailand, Kenya, British Columbia, South Africa, Peru and others.
The survey also comes after Rwanda was named among the top African countries that has vaccinated above 10% of its population by World Health Organisation. The country’s coronavirus tourism restrictions were eased in the cabinet meeting on September 21.
