GASABO - The Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre was once again the target of a grenade attack last night which left one person injured.

When The New Times arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, it was established that only one person, an unidentified passer-by, had been injured and whisked to hospital, reportedly by security officers.

"I was at home just up over there when we suddenly heard a bang, just like a firearm going off, and then all of a sudden the police was here,” said Daniel Harerimana, one of the people who were in the area when the incident occurred.

Subsequent calls to the police could not establish any more facts on the reported casualty or possible arrests but some six possible suspects were seen boarding a police truck.

The police are investigating the matter, according to spokesperson John Uwamungu.

This is the second attack on the country’s biggest memorial which is home to remains of over 300,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The first attack also came in April last year during the Commemoration Week, an attack into which a policeman who was one of the guards at the Centre lost his life.
