As Covid-19 guidelines continue to be eased with the number of cases going down, the end of year is likely to see the return of weddings as it was before the pandemic.
Many people are planning to take advantage of guidelines to make their relationships official before the return of the ‘big weddings’, in case the pandemic fully subsides as the country attains considerable levels of vaccination.
As expected, even celebrities will not be left behind as the year comes to a close, with a few expected to walk down the aisle and change their marital status.
First on the list is gospel star Patient Bizimana, who decided to put an end to annual media stories of his father asking him publicly when he will bring home a daughter-in-law. The singer, who has withstood pressure for several years, last week announced his wedding date.
The ‘Umenye neza’ singer will walk down the aisle with his fiancée Gentille Uwera Karamira, on December 19, 2021.
The gospel singer released his ‘Save the Date’ announcement this week, in what promises to be one of the celebrity weddings of the year.
Reports say Bizimana had already said his civil vows with Uwera in June 2019, in Rubavu district, but the event never made it to the news. In June this year, their wedding announcement was made at Evangelical Restoration Church, Masoro.
The singer, who before the new Coronavirus outbreak used to organise the annual ‘Easter Celebration’ concert, used to be a victim of his father’s on-stage rebuke as to why he does not get married. It looks like his old man’s prayers have been answered.
Designers say ‘I do’
The year 2021 looks like the year of fashion designers to tie the knot, with some of the most celebrated designers in the country planning to formalise their relationships.
Sonia Mugabo is one of those who are over the moon following her recent engagement to fiancé, businessman Diego Twahirwa of Gashora Farms.
Twahirwa popped the question to Mugabo earlier this month, on September 9, a day that will remain memorable to Mugabo.
The ‘Sonia Mugabo’ or ‘SM’ fashion house founder, and mental health advocate is smiling after the man of her life asked for her hand in marriage.
Mugabo took to Twitter last week to express how elated she is that this year’s Christmas will find her a wife to someone. It looks like she cannot wait for the day which is yet to be made public.
Either way the couple looks excited that they will be doing life together. Mugabo, who has been openly speaking about her personal mental struggles, which were compounded by the loss of her father last year, runs one of the most respected fashion labels in Rwanda.
Twahirwa too is renowned for his business acumen, which saw him pen multimillion deals to export chili to different markets, mainly China, through his Gashora Farms project.
House of Tayo founder, Matthew Rugamba, also known as Tayo, is also set to walk down the aisle before the end of the year with his sweetheart Sharon Mutaboba.
Tayo went down on his knees on September 14 and proposed to his long-term girlfriend Mutaboba. The two looked besotted as they committed their lives to each other.
Rugamba popped the question in the close company of friends and a few family members in a simple yet sophisticated evening. Several people, including fellow designer Mugabo and Miss Rwanda 2020, Naomie Nishimwe, took to social media to congratulate the couple.
Like Sonia Mugabo, Rugamba has cut a name as one of the leading high end fashion designers, who are also grouped under ‘CollectiveRw’.
