A week-long coaches’ clinic to train athletes with visual impairment kicked off yesterday at Amahoro stadium. The clinic which has attracted about 20 participants from Rwanda, Kenya and DR .Congo is being conducted by Mike Russchen, a Dutch Professor of sports with disabilities and also the head coach of the Netherlands national women team of goal ball.
The clinic has been organised by the National Paralympics Committee (NPC) and the president of the committee Dominique Bizimana yesterday told Times Sport that NPC will benefit a lot from the expertise of Mike Russchen.
"Russchen has great experience working with sports men and women with visual impairments, and we believe that his experience and expertise will help us a lot to improve sports for the visually impaired,” he said.
NPC has greatly improved sports for disabilities in Rwanda, introducing tournaments like sitting volleyball, sit ball and goal ball.
