Record nine-time league winners APR take on minnows Etoile de l’est in their rescheduled Amahoro Cup tie due to be played in Kibungo this afternoon.

This fixture was initially scheduled to be played on the weekend of April 3-5 but was later postponed to allow APR play Egyptian side Haras El Hodoud in the second leg of the African Confederation Cup. They later lost the game 0-2 to bow out of the competition on 0-2 aggregates.

The military side, holders of last year’s Amahoro Cup must record a win in their opener against the Eastern province side to keep them in race for a double this season.

APR is still in contention to win the national football league though it’s placed second with 36 points, one point behind leaders Atraco.

Coach Erik Paske who has attained full control of the team following the retirement of Coach Rene Feller will be have point  to prove against the second division side as he seeks to stamp his authority on the army side .

Etoile de l’est lies ninth with 4 points in four matches played in Group one of the second division league.

The military side will be boosted by the return of striker Ndjoli Bokungu who missed the Caf tie due to suspension but Bokota Labama is doubtful after a long injury lay-off.

Meanwhile, other top flight clubs Atraco and Rayon Sport won their openers in this knock out competition. Last year’s losing finalists Atraco beat second division side ISAE 2-0 at Mumena stadium on the weekend of April 3-5.

Jean Lomami and Jean Shyaka scored the goals for the taxi-men club.

Rayon Sport thrashed Interforce 5-0 at Nyamirambo stadium. Tanzania born striker Joseph Kaniki netted a brace while Bonaventure Hategikimana, Aphrodise Hategikimana and Akiri Mabula scored one apiece.

Electrogaz defeated Aspor 4-1 at Kicukiro and AS-Kigali recorded another leading 4-0 win over Stella Maris at Ferwafa turf.

Amagaju routed Union 4-0 in Nyamagabe as Marines overcame Intare 4-0 at Kamena stadium in Southern Province.

Musanze defeated UNR 2-1 in Ruhengeri as Sorwathe lost 1-2 to Kibuye at home in Kinihira. League relegation battling side La Jeunesse lost 1-2 away to second division high fliers Muhanga while Zebres played out a 1-all draw against Nyanza in Byumba.

Espoir earned maximum points without kicking a ball as Etincelles failed to travel to the Western Province without valid reasons.
