Rwanda’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup came to an end following a shock defeat against Zimbabwe on Thursday, September 16, in the Africa qualifiers in Gaborone, Botswana.

Rwanda suffered their second defeat of the qualifying campaign against a dominant Zimbabwean side by 52 runs and blew their chances of reaching the semifinals of the qualifications after the defeat forced Leonard Nhamburo’s ladies to third place.

A win against Rwanda extended Zimbabwe Women’s unbeaten run to five games and sent them through to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa semi-finals as table leaders with points, two ahead of second-placed Tanzania who progressed to the second finals after beating hosts Botswana by 7 wickets.

Zimbabwe face Uganda, who finished second in Group B, in the last-four clash scheduled for today while Tanzania squares off with Group B table leaders Namibia.

The finalists will meet in the final slated for Sunday, September 19, and will qualify for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup slated from February 9-26, 2023 in South Africa.
