Basketball: Tunisia defeat Cote d’Ivoire to win 2021 Afrobasket tournament

Tunisia are now back-to-back champions of the Afrobasket tournament, thanks to a 78-75 victory over Cote d’Ivoire in the final game of the competition on Sunday, September 5.

The Afrobasket 2021 showpiece unfolded for two weeks at the Kigali Arena, from August 24 to September 5, bringing together 16 teams from different African countries.

By the end of it, Tunisia, the winners of the previous edition continued with their dominance, as they went undefeated in all the 6 games they played.

After putting up such a great display, some of the team's players clinched individual awards, among whom, their captain Makram Ben Romdhane who was named the Most Valuable Player.

Dirk Bauemann, the Head coach of the team spoke about the victory, thanking his players for the feat.

"I have always wanted to perform well in my job and to give the best I can, and I thank my players was made it again."

All the 36 games of the tournament were played at the Kigali Arena, and the showpiece come out successful with robust measures for the prevention of Covid-19, among other protocols that aided the competition to be top-notch in terms of basketball.

In another game that took place on the same day, Senegal defeated Cape Verde 86-73 to claim the third-place position in the tournament.

Rwanda, the host finished in 10th place in Afrobasket 2021 after being eliminated at the group stage level.

The final game was witnessed by President Paul Kagame and other officials from FIBA.
