Defending champions Tunisia will play against Côte d'Ivoire in the final match of the Afrobasket 2021 tournament at the Kigali Arena on Sunday, September 5.

The Tunisians defeated Cape Verde 75-65 in the semifinals that took place on Saturday, while Côte d'Ivoire overcame Senegal 75-65 on the same day to book a place in the finals.

In their game against Cape Verde, Tunisia won the first two quarters, 16-14 and 23-15, to hold a 10-point lead of 39-29 at the break.

Back in the second half, Tunisia continued to lead, as they claimed the third quarter by 20-15, opening up a 15-point going into the final quarter.

Cape Verde bounced back in last quarter with a 20-16 lead, but this could not bring them triumph at the end of the day, as the game ended 65-75.

Makram Ben Romdhane, Tunisia’s captain scored 16 points and 10 rebounds - his second double-double in the tournament - as the champions looked to join the likes of Angola in winning the title back-back.

On the other hand, the 'Elephants' of Cote d'Ivoire, fought hard to put away a robust Senegalese team, which went toe-to-toe with them during a physical semi-final duel that was attended by among other fans, President Paul Kagame.

Meanwhile, Cape Verde and Senegal will play the third-place game on Sunday afternoon.
