Mahatlane names squad for ICC U19 WC Africa qualifier

National Cricket team's 14 players for the ICC U19 Men's World Cup Africa qualifier that will take place in Tanzania.

Rwanda men’s cricket coach Laurence Mahatlane on Wednesday night, July 31, departed Kigali with 14 players for the ICC U19 Men's World Cup Africa qualifier taking place in Tanzania.

The qualifying tournament, which will run from August 1-11, has attracted eight countries Rwanda, Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana and host nation Tanzania.

The top three will grab tickets to the ICC U19 Men's World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2026.

Rwanda is placed in Group A alongside Sierra Leone, Botswana and Malawi. They will start their campaign on Saturday, August 3, against Sierra Leone at the Dar Gymkhana Ground before taking on Botswana at the UDSM Ground on Monday, August 5. Their final group encounter, against Malawi, will take place on Wednesday, August 7.

Rwanda, an emerging force in African cricket, will be aiming to go all out to attain success in the event.

The Rwanda U19 Women's team reached the Supersix in the 2023 World Cup in South Africa and Mahatlane will be aiming to qualify the mane’s team and hopefully attain the same target.
