Spoken word is one way of bringing emotions to words, expressing what we feel, a visual representation of what we have in mind, says Bob Mugabe, a poet.
According to him, art is a way of communicating and bringing up the social aspect that human beings need, it takes an artist to connect with the audience, one of the challenges that we are facing in this pandemic.
For the past 10 years, Spoken Word Rwanda has given a platform to very many artists, an opportunity to nurture their talents.
"The Spoken Word family has grown into a big family, we have seen performers from all corners of the world, different languages, and different cultures. We are grateful for the support, to all the partners, to all restaurants and venues that offered us a home.
The Covid-19 pandemic has affected us because we can’t have our monthly events where we sit and listen to beautiful poetry and melodies but we have managed to keep our family engaged,” says Fiona Kamikazi Rutagengwa
Going forward, Kamikazi says that organisers have resorted to holding virtual shows in the coming months.
"This way, we will be able to have some of our poets who are not in Rwanda join us. COVID-19 can be a blessing in disguise and we will try to leverage this opportunity.
We would love to share this content on all our social media platforms, and continue inspiring actors in our creative industry and we look forward to the next 10 years with you all,” she said.
