NYARUGENGE - A documentary with actual footage of the infamous roadblock killings during the 1994 Genocide of the Tutsi went on air Friday at Serena Hotel, Kigali.

The footage in the documentary "Iseta” The story behind the roadblock” directed by Eric Kabera and Juan Reina was captured by Nick Hughes during the Genocide.

"Fifteen years after the Genocide this is a time to revisit what happened to put a face to those who were killed and those who killed. This is a truth that the people and community are seeking,” Kabera said. He said the documentary is special in that it reveals the realities that surrounded the deaths in 1994.

In the film, famous British cameraman Nick Hughes returns to Rwanda 15 years after the Genocide to bring the footage to the road block survivors and the relatives of the victims.

Some survivors have used the video clip to identify the perpetrators and use the footage as evidence to convict them.
In the film, Nick Hughes is captured saying, "People do not realise what the Genocide was and that is the power of a picture.”

According to Kabera, the documentary is available for home use and complementary DVDs will be given to different districts to facilitate the commemoration of the Genocide.

The film is scheduled to be showcased in film festivals across the globe.

Films such as Keepers of Memory and Shake Hands with the Devil also about the Genocide will be screened next week on Tuesday at Serena Hotel.
