Mount Kigali University co-founder Dr Jane Nyutu, and renowned Rwandan gospel musician Chryso Ndasingwa, were among the guests at the university’s Christian Union Thanksgiving Service to celebrate over 12 years of faith and community achievements. Dr Nyutu donated equipment worth Rwf 40 million to support the Union’s praise and worship activities.
Representing the Mount Kenya University (MKU) Board of Directors, Dr Nyutu emphasised the importance of faith and community, saying: "When we co-founded Mount Kigali University, we envisioned an institution that excels academically and fosters a community grounded in strong values, faith, and service. Today, I see that vision realised in our dedicated students, committed staff, and supportive community members.”
She underscored the thanksgiving service’s significance, quoting Ephesians 5:20: "Always give thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Dr Nyutu expressed excitement about the new pieces of equipment, referring to them as symbols of faith that would enhance worship and service activities. "We have always supported and encouraged our students to participate in various religious groups. I am very excited to present the assorted equipment to the Christian Union today,” she said.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor Dr Martin Kimemia, expressed pride and joy in the community’s unity under faith. Reflecting on the university’s Christian Union’s journey since its humble beginnings in 2012, he praised its founding members’ dedication and acknowledged the Union’s growth and impact.
Quoting Psalm 107:1, Dr Kimemia said: "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; His love endures forever.” The VC encouraged the Christian Union to embrace new opportunities, such as an online church, to reach more students.
Chaplain and Head of the Christian Union at Mount Kenya University, Rev Dr Regina Kinuthia, shared heartfelt blessings. She quoted 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, reminding everyone to "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances”, and praised Mount Kigali University for embodying the vision of faith and exceptional education.
Rev Dr Kinuthia emphasised the strength of unity in overcoming challenges and reaching new heights. She expressed deep appreciation to the event organisers, Christian Union members, and everyone who contributed to the day’s success.
The Chairperson of the Mount Kigali University Christian Union, Angela Mutoni, echoed these sentiments, quoting Colossians 3:17: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
She expressed profound gratitude to the MKU Board of Directors represented by Dr Nyutu, for their generous donation and unwavering support, which had empowered the Christian Union to flourish.
Mutoni also thanked the university, church, and fellow students for their support, which has been the cornerstone of the Union’s growth and accomplishments. She commended the Christian Union members for their dedication, faith, and commitment to their shared mission.
Lucie Uwimana, the Dean of Students, said, "We proudly uphold a policy of non-discrimination regarding faith and religious beliefs. Our diverse community welcomes and accommodates staff and students from all religious backgrounds. We are committed to providing a supportive environment, listening to and engaging with the wider religious community. We ensure our students and staff are informed about places of worship in Kigali and the various student faith societies within the university.”
The service attendees were treated to a dynamic and soul-stirring performance by Ndasingwa, known for hits like Wahozeho and Wakinguye Ijuru, among other songs.
