Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) has embarked on a campaign to take Covid-19 vaccinations to the homes of  senior citizens aged 60 years and above.

According to a statement from RBC, a hotline has been put in place for anyone to call and inform the health officials about people within that age group, who need to be vaccinated so that they can be reached out to.

"Let us take care of the lives of the elderly. In Kigali, if you know a person who is 60 years old and above, and is not yet vaccinated for Covid-19, call 3260 so that the medics will reach out to them,” read a post on RBC’s Twitter handle.

According to the government, plans are underway to extend the same campaign to other parts of the country.

The initiative comes as the Ministry of Health (MoH) continues to press towards the targets of vaccinating more and more elderly people, and it is expected to be soon extended to the other provinces of the country.

According to statistics from MoH, as of Tuesday, August 10, a total of 680,470 people had been vaccinated in the country. Of these, 30,535 were inoculated on the same day (Tuesday).
