Nigeria’s D’Tigress on Monday, July 29, recorded a stunning 75-62 victory against world number three Australia in their opening Paris 2024 Olympics fixture of the women’s basketball event held at Stade Pierre Mauroy.

It was the D’Tigress’s first win at the Olympics in 20 years.

Ezinne Kalu was Nigeria’s standout performer in the encounter, scoring 19 points and adding 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

Rena Wakama’s side trailed by eight points in the first quarter of the keenly contested game. The Nigerians, however, rallied to lead 41-28 at halftime.

Australia again fought back and reduced the gap to just four points by the end of the third quarter but Nigeria stood up to the challenge and claimed a famous 75-62 victory at the end of the day.

D’Tigress return to action on Saturday, August 1, when they take on host nation France.
