KINYATRAP PIONEER, Bushali has joined efforts with Germany based-producer Ghanaian Stallion for his follow up project, ‘Kivuruga’. Bushali also looks to Southern Africa to join efforts with yet another fierce female hip hop act Awa Khiwe for a defining EP.
Loosely meaning confusing, ‘Kivuruga’ expresses Bushali’s personal challenges as he navigates the Rwanda music industry as a rapper and social influencer. The EP is a portrait of Bushali as a vulnerable young adult in his soul-searching journey and is a quick follow up to his third album ‘Ibihe Bi7’ (seven seasons) released in 2020 according to a press release.
All songs from the EP were produced by Ghanaian Stallion, bringing in a new sound from outside East Africa.
‘’Ghanian Stallion and I connected when he performed in Rwanda with Rapper Megaloh at the invitation of the Goethe Institut. The Concert was dubbed ‘BSMG East-Africa-Tour’. It is a privilege to finally create new material together since our first interaction in 2017” Bushali is quoted as saying in a statement.
Besides Awa Khiwe, Bushali also ropes in fellow Rwandan artist NERIWEST for a track that many musicians would relate to. Dubbed ‘Devils’, the track highlights how often artists will be shortchanged by collaborators or partners they work with.
The underlying message is that young artists should learn to value themselves and trust their talent. The other tracks also tackle social issues as well as encouraging all to tap into the power that lies within them according to a press release.
The project was executive produced by Bushali and Ghanian Stallion, with the help from Rwanda’s Hip hop label – Green Ferry Music. The label hopes that through music, young talents can get their voice heard on the global stage. It offers a platform for exciting young talents in Rwanda a home to nurture their talents.
