Plans have reached fifth gear for local side; Mukura Victory Sport to organize a football tournament to commemorate the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The Huye based side has held the Memorial tournament since 1998 as they remember the players, officials, fans and Rwandans at large, who perished during the mayhem.

Club president Abraham Nayandi told Times Sport yesterday that that they have requested the local football body, Ferwafa to give blessing to the annual event as well set the organizers an appropriate date which fits well in their calendar.

"We would have held the event before the Genocide commemoration week began but we did not because of the national league schedule.

"And also, we had also not raised enough funds to enable us organize a good tournament and further still, we had some internal problem to deal with first,” Nayandi said.

"We however, still do have it in plans. We may host the tournament at the end of this month or beginning of next month,” he confirmed.

According to the long-serving Mukura president, they plan, as every year to invite all first division clubs for the tournament.
As organizers, Mukura have won the event five times.

They beat Rayon Sport 5-4 aggregate to win the 2008 trophy. They also lifted the 2007 edition after overcoming APR.
