Editor,
The East African Community (EAC) yesterday joined the rest of the world in commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi with a resolve that Genocide should never happen again anywhere in the world.
That sentiment along with Pres. Obama’s statement that promised to remember that "each of the 800,000 individuals who died in 1994 had their own story, their own family, and their own dreams”, tells me that we aren’t suffering alone.
While I regret that, when the going got tough, we didn’t see the world’s involvement, I feel like the world is coming around and is finally sharing our pain.
They say a friend in need is a friend indeed. Well, the international community wasn’t there in our darkest days; I hope that it will be there as we pick ourselves out of the hole they let us fall into.
