AS Kigali has announced the appointment of Jimmy Mulisa as the club’s new assistant coach for the next twelve months.
The 37-year-old reunites with head coach Eric Nshimiyimana whom they played together at both national and club level at APR FC and Amavubi.
Mulisa’s appointment was confirmed by AS Kigali Secretary-General, Francis Gasana.
"Jimmy Mulisa will serve as the assistant coach for AS Kigali for one year after the head coach recommended to work with him," Gasana told Times Sport.
He replaces outgoing Djabir Mutarambirwa who doesn’t have a coaching license that is a requirement by CAF for coaches at continental competitions. AS Kigali will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.
"He does not meet CAF requirements, so we hired another coach who will work with him in the CAF Confederation Cup," Gasana explained.
Mulisa, who was part of the famous Amavubi squad that played at the 2004 Africa nations cup in Tunisia, retired from competitive football in 2014 after nearly ten years as a professional player at different clubs in Europe and Asia.
Prior to his 2005 move to RAEC Mons in Belgium, Mulisa was at APR FC for four seasons where he scored 16 goals in 40 appearances.
