Local football governing body, Ferwafa is in talks with MTN Rwanda to renew their sponsorship towards this year’s Amahoro Cup Competition.

The federation Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa confirmed to Times Sport yesterday that they are in talks with MTN to continue their partnership following the success from last year where the company injected Frw20 millions in the knockout competition.

This year’s campaign kicked off on Saturday and the favourites Atraco and Rayon Sport were among the winners.

"We have been in talks with MTN for some time and we hope the talks will deliver positive results,” Kalisa said.

However, MTN are taking long to respond following a change in administration. Former Chief Executive Officer Thembo Khumalo was shifted to head MTN Uganda.

This means that for the deal to be finalised, a new CEO must first take office.

Meanwhile, the big guns started their quest for Amahoro Cup on a bright note as they recorded vital wins in their openers.

Last year’s losing finalists Atraco beat second division side ISAE 2-0 at Mumena stadium on Saturday. Andre Lomami and Jean Shyaka scored the goals for the taxi-men club.

Rayon Sport thrashed Interforce 5-0 at Nyamirambo stadium. Tanzania born striker Joseph Kaniki netted a brace while Bonaventure Hategikimana, Aphrodise Hategikimana and Akiri Mabula scored one apiece.

Electrogaz defeated Aspor 4-1 at Kicukiro and AS-Kigali recorded another leading 4-0 win over Stella Maris at Ferwafa turf.

Amagaju routed Union 4-0 in Nyamagabe as Marines overcame Intare 4-0 at Kamena stadium in Southern Province.

Musanze defeated UNR 2-1 in Ruhengeri as Sorwathe lost 1-2 to Kibuye at home in Kinihira. League relegation battling side La Jeunesse lost 1-2 away to second division high fliers Muhanga while Zebres played out a 1-all draw against Nyanza in Byumba.

Espoir earned maximum points without kicking a ball as Etincelles failed to travel to the Western Province without valid reasons.
