Dieudonne Disi finished 18th on his debut in the 33rd Paris Marathon held yesterday in Paris, France. Kenyans and Ethiopians dominated the event.

Disi clocked two hours, twelve minutes and 51 seconds to finish outside the prize brackets in a race which was dominated by Kenyans and Ethiopians.

Disi was making his first appearance in the prestigious international event, switching from his favored 10000m distance at which his holds the national record of 27 minutes 22 seconds and 28 microseconds.

The winner of the 42km run was 21-year-old Kenyan Vincent Kipruto, who came in at a record-breaking 2 hours, 5 minutes, 47 seconds.

Ethiopia’s Worka Bazu and Kenya’s David Kiyeng finished in second and third positions after clocking 02:06:15 and 02:06:26 respectively.

Disi and Kenya’s Francis Kibiwott were the only athletes making their full marathon debuts. Disi was sixth at last year’s IAAF World half-marathon championships and has a half-marathon personal best of 59:32.

Kibiwott, who has a half-marathon best of 59:26, finished 12th clocking 02:09:13 in the yesterday’s race.

Working as a pacemaker at last year’s Flora London Marathon, Disi made it to 27 km, rolling along comfortably at a 2:05 marathon pace.

The previous record holder for the Paris marathon was another Kenyan, Mike Rotitch, who set that record of 2 hours, 6 minutes, 33 seconds in 2003.

Ethiopia’s Atsede Bayisa won the women category in a time of 2:24:41.

Disi was using the Paris Marathon as part of his preparations ahead of the World athletics championship due in Berlin, Germany in August.
