On July 4, Rwandans across the country and around the world marked the 27th anniversary of the liberation struggle that brought an end to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi that left over one million people dead.
In celebration of this, MTN Rwanda has planned a live TV show to entertain all Rwandans in the comfort of their homes due to Covid-19 preventive measures that include banning of social gatherings.
The virtual party will take place today from 6pm to 7pm and will be live on RTV and also streamed on MTN’s social media platforms.
Some of the artistes expected to perform are Alyn Sano, Riderman, Jules Sentore and Joel Ruti. And MC Tino, Anita Pendo and DJ Infinity are said to be part of the show.
"We always keep the youth at heart and that’s why we looked for local artistes that most, if not all, youth in Rwanda know and love and would enjoy their performances to celebrate Liberation,” says a representative of the telecom company.
Pendo and MC Tino will be the MCs and DJ Infinity will be on the mix. Every artiste will perform for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Sano who recently released ‘Hono’ is so grateful for all the support she has received and says she is honoured to be among the artistes who will perform at the event.
"I feel so honored and privileged, because my work is noticed and that keeps me going. As we celebrate Liberation, let’s keep conserving what we have. It’s not in vain. We ought to maintain our achievements for good,” she says.
Joel Ruti tells The New Times that this is a great opportunity. "It is great to be one of the selected artistes who will perform for Rwandans to celebrate Liberation Day. The message I want to give to all Rwandans is to step into the shoes of the people who rebuilt the country and continue in that line. I also dedicate my song, ‘Rasana’ to them.”
Riderman, a renowned hip-hop artiste, urges all Rwandans to celebrate Liberation Day with the aim of never going back to evil.
"We are celebrating Liberation Day with determination to never go back. Let’s remember the evil we left, look where we are so far, go forward and strive for the best. We need to step into the heroes’ shoes and denounce anyone who wants to take us back to the evil we came from,” he says.
Jules Santore, tells The New Times that Liberation Day is a very special day because the country has come a long way. He says, "We have to keep it together because people sacrificed their lives for us to be here. Let us learn from them and follow in their footsteps.”
MC Tino says that this is such a special day to him and all Rwandans, and that people have missed him on stage, so he plans to give them the best.
"This will be a nice show, as Rwandans, let’s keep the courage and energy of Liberation and keep the love and patriotism as youth. Remember that we are the power of our country, let’s fight Covid-19 together by following all the prevention measures because together we can make it.”
