Rwanda has registered a new record in Covid-19 infections for a third straight day, with 964 people testing positive for the virus on Wednesday, June 23.
They were part of 8741 tests conducted on the same day, representing a positivity rate of 11.2 per cent.
This sets a new national record in confirmed daily infections since the pandemic was first reported in Rwanda in March 2020.
Also, the same day updates from the Ministry of Health indicated that five people succumbed to the disease, while 12 patients were in critical condition.
Overall, 33,260 people have contracted this infectious respiratory disease out of over 1.57 million tests that have been carried out so far, while 26,734 have recovered from it.
So far, there are 6,129 active Covid-19 cases in the country, and the disease has claimed lives of 397 people in the country, in total.
Out of the total cases reported on Wednesday, 326 or 33.8 percent, were in the City of Kigali (made up of three districts; Nyarugenge, Gasabo and Kicukiro).
Cases were recorded in all districts except Gisagara in Southern Province.
Wednesday was the third day in a row that daily registered Covid-19 cases in Rwanda been the highest since the pandemic spread to the country over a year ago.
On June 22, 861 cases were reported from 7,624 tests conducted in the country, while on June 21, 622 people tested positive of Covid-19 out of 5,342 tests performed within 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
Between Monday and Wednesday, 15 deaths have been recorded attributable to Covid-19.
