Hundreds of people have registered for this year’s Kigali Night Run scheduled for Friday, June 11.
Over 500 had by Thursday evening signed up for the 5.4km annual run, which will take place in Kimihurura, from 6:30p.m-8:30p.m.
The event will see runners set off from Kigali Business Centre (KBC) via Kabindi through Primature roundabout and back.
Last year’s edition was called off due to Covid-19 restrictions.
This time around, organisers say, all safety precautions have been catered for with elaborate Covid protocols planned.
"We have a team of volunteers who’ll be helping with ensuring that the guidelines are followed to the letter,” Gisele Wibabara, coordinator of sponsorship, activations and trade marketing at MTN Rwanda, one of the key organisers, told The New Times.
Registration continues free of charge.
Meanwhile, the police announced on the eve of the event that the road stretching from the Netherlands embassy in Kacyiru through Kigali Heights, Kigali Convention Centre and KBC to Primature-Kimihurura will be closed to traffic 6p.m to 8:30p.m.
With the Covid-19 curfew time starting at 10p.m, the event will kick off and close 30 minutes earlier than previously.
"For those using the axis Remera-Kigali downtown or Nyabugogo, traffic diversions will be at Gishushu and Kabindi. Traffic Police Officers will be at all junctions to direct you to alternative routes. Kindly bear with the inconveniences,” the law enforcers tweeted.
The Kigali Night Run is usually a curtain-raiser for the Kigali International Peace Marathon – with this year’s edition slated for June 20.
