Rwanda 2-0 CAR

Abdul Rwatubyaye and skipper Jacques Tuyisenge were on target as Rwanda beat the Central African Republic (CAR) 2-0 in an international friendly match at Amahoro Stadium on Friday.

Centre-back Rwatubyaye, who plies his trade with Macedonian side Shkupi FK, scored the opener in the 40th minute, with forward Tuyisenge rounding off the scoring in the 68th minute.

Tuyisenge could have scored more than once as he missed several chances, including a penalty early in the first-half after APR teammate Lague Byiringiro was brought down inside the box.

Vincent Mashami’s home side started strongly but could not break the deadlock until five minutes before the break, through Rwatubyaye’s header off a curling free-kick from midfielder Djabel Manishimwe.

The national football team, Amavubi, face CAR again on Monday, June 8, in the two sides’ second warm-up game ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers, which resume in September.

In the second round of next year’s World Cup qualifiers, Rwanda makes Group E alongside neighbours Uganda, Kenya, and Mali.
