Approximately 150 people, including Rwandans and guests from Burundi, the Republic of Congo, DR Congo, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Benin, and Sweden, gathered at the residence of the Rwandan Ambassador to Sweden on the evening of Saturday, July 20, to celebrate Rwanda’s Liberation Day.
The event focused on discussions about Rwanda's progress and the history of its liberation struggle.
Jean Noel Karara, a leader of the Rwandan community in Sweden, shared the significance of Liberation Day, reflecting on his family’s experiences in exile and the joy of reclaiming their rights over the past 30 years.
He highlighted the challenges of understanding the historical context behind the atrocities ended by the RPF-Inkotanyi under President Paul Kagame, and how the recent election results resonate differently with those who deny or overlook this history.

Lucy Kibukayire, a participant in the liberation struggle, expressed her deep gratitude to the RPF and President Kagame, honoring the sacrifices made by those who fought for the country’s freedom.
Amb Diane Gashumba praised the Rwandan community in the Nordic countries for their peaceful conduct during the elections.
She emphasized that voting for President Kagame signifies a commitment to security, equal rights, and development, and urged greater participation in the country’s development programmes.
The event featured traditional dances, songs, and meals prepared by entrepreneur Joelle Umutoni and her team.
