Part of the city of Goma has been evacuated since the early morning of Thursday, May 27.

According to the military governor, Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima, scientists are predicting a probable eruption underground and under the lake. The inhabitants of certain districts of Goma have been leaving the city since one in the morning.

In his message to the population, he added that the current data of seismicity and soil deformation indicate the presence of magmas under the urban area of ​​Goma with an extension under Lake Kivu.

According to him, "we cannot exclude an eruption on land or under the lake”.
