ENDING APR’s unbeaten run in the 2020/2021 national football league will serve as extra motivation for AS Kigali when the two sides square off at Muhanga Stadium on Wednesday at 3pm.

Champions APR, who are in third place, have not lost a single match this season – from the 7 matches they have played that include six games in the group stages–as they bid for an ‘invincible’ campaign, while leaders AS Kigali are gunning to win their first league title.

The best position that AS Kigali has finished in was in second place in the 2017/18 season and Nsabimana thinks they can go one step better this season.

"We are aware all the odds will be against us, but that is also a motivation for us. Obviously, APR wants to keep their unbeaten record, but we also want to win. It is going to be a tough match on both sides,” Captain Eric Nsabimana said

In the seven games that AS Kigali has played since the league resumed, the City of Kigali sponsored side has won five matches including four in the group stages, and lost two against Etincelles and Musanze.

The two renew their rivalry hot off big victories over the weekend, with AS Kigali having thumped Rayon Sports 3-1, while APR beat Espoir 1-0, last week.

"We won’t take them (AS Kigali) lightly, winning pushes us to want more. we are fully focused on getting a positive result against AS Kigali,” APR striker Jacques Tuyisenge said

Both teams are separated by goal difference. The top three which are; AS Kigali, Bugesera and APR, all have three points and are joint league leaders but AS Kigali scored more goals.

Meanwhile on Monday, Bugesera FC came from behind to beat Police FC 2-1 while AS Muhanga lost 2-0 to SC Kiyovu. Mukura was held to a 1-1 by Sunrise FC.
