Rapper Prime Mazimpaka on Saturday, May 22, dropped a freestyle song dubbed ‘Middle Child’ that is dedicated to American rapper Jermaine Cole, who is in Rwanda playing for the Patriots in the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Mazimpaka is a big fan of Cole and has been an inspiration to his music and, having learned that the rapper arrived in the country for continental Basketball showpiece, he immediately hit the studio to record a dedication song for his ‘role model’.
The rapper, born Mazimpaka Che Guevara, took a beat of one of the American’s most popular songs, ‘Middle Child’, and used his own verses to record a freestyle song to honor J Cole.
"I wrote my own version of the song, shot the video and released it. I did it in honour of him [Cole] because he’s here. I love him and I am a big fan and I hope it reaches him. I also did it for my supporters,” Mazimpaka told The New Times.
"I wanted to let him know that we, in Rwanda, also have a big Hip Hop foundation and that we also have the Hip Hop culture that is alive and strong… and we embraced it,” the rapper added.
The song was recorded by Blaze Beat, then producer Kina Beat did the mixing and mastering of the song. The video was directed by El Kojo.
Mazimpaka is a modern rapper whose Hip Hop version resonates with American Hip Hop. Being fluent in English helps the rapper find it easy to record rap songs that resonate with American Hip Hop music.
The rapper is looking forward to hearing that his ‘dedication’ reached J Cole and ensure that his favorite rapper takes note that Rwanda’s Hip Hop is going places.
