Atlético Petróleos de Luanda have become the second team to reach the quarter-finals of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) after registering a second win in Group B at Kigali Arena on Thursday.

The Angolan champions join Rwanda’s Patriots who reached the last eight on Wednesday.

Petro de Luanda confirmed their slot into the quarter-finals with a game to spare following a hard-fought 66-64 win over Forces Armees et Police (FAP) of Cameroon.

Antwan Scott starred with 23 points to inspire Petro to the vital victory, with Jone Pedro contributing 13 points to the club’s successive win in the continent’s biggest club competition.

In their first game on Monday, Petro de Luanda had edged Mali’s AS Police 84-66.

Two more games were lined up for Thursday – US Monastir against Rivers Hoopers and AS Police facing AS Sale – but, by press time, they were yet to get underway.
