NAIROBI - Rwandans living in Kenya will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi with several activities being conducted in universities in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Kenya, George William Kayonga yesterday said the move is aimed at sharing Rwanda’s experiences with the youth, and how lessons can be drawn. 

"It’s an opportunity to share experiences with the young generation to make them aware of the consequences of bad politics, hate and bad governance,” Kayonga told The New Times during an interview in Nairobi.

He added that many Rwandan students go to universities there and that the activities will start tomorrow with a public lecture at the United States International University (USIU) to be shortly followed by a question and answer session.

On Tuesday, Kayonga said, the commemoration event will be held at the UN headquarters where heads of diplomatic corps, senior government officials and members of the Rwandan Diaspora are expected to attend.

"We shall thereafter have a church service at the All Saints Cathedral and later a candle lighting function,” he said, adding that the activities are aimed at denouncing Genocide in any part of the world.

The envoy said that national reconstruction policies that have been put in place in Rwanda like social cohesion and restoration of human dignity should serve as an example to the world.
