Tour du Rwanda 2021: Colombian Sanchez wins opening stage

Brayan Sanchez has won the first stage of the 13th Tour du Rwanda after clocking two hours, 33 minutes and 43 seconds to cover the 115.6km distance from Kigali to Rwamagana.

The Colombian rider claimed the victory after outsprinting a host of contenders at the finish-line.

Seth Hakizimana, featuring for local side SACA, was Rwanda’s top performer in 14th position while Renus Byiza Uwihirwe of Team Rwanda came in 15th place with same time.

Out of 75 cyclists who make this year’s peloton, a group of 68 used the same time (2:33:43) as the stage winner.

In Monday’s Stage 2, the riders will ride 120.5 kilometres from Kigali to Huye District in the Southern Province.
