The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat has commended the recently released Muse Report on the role of France in connection with the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. 

Commissioned by the government of Rwanda in 2017 from American law firm Levy Firestone LLP and released on April 19 this year, the report showed that the French government was neither blind nor unconscious about the Genocide as it provided unwavering support to the Genocidal government that was in power by then.

The 600-page document presents a number of evidence pinning the French government to a serious role in the genocide, as it continued to work with the genocidal government, despite clearly visible human rights abuses that were being perpetrated in Rwanda from 1990 to 1994.

In a statement published on the AU website on Wednesday, April 21, Faki added his voice to those of other people that were pleased by the report, describing it as an "exhaustive fact-finding report on the role of France in connection with the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda."

Hinting on the Duclert report released by the French government for the same cause late March, Faki lauded Presidents Paul Kagame and Emmanuel Macron of France for the political courage.

He said that; "these moves toward a more shared understanding, which merit the endorsement of Africa as a whole."

"Dignity rests on truth, respect and mutual recognition," the AU statement noted.

The Duclert Report found that France bore "heavy and overwhelming responsibilities” in the Genocide against the Tutsi, though it claimed that they (the French government) was "blind" to preparations of the massacres.
