Rwandan peacekeepers (RWABATT12) serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) were on July 16 awarded with the Presidential Medal of appreciation by the President Faustin Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic, during a ceremony at the presidential palace in the capital city, Bangui.

According to an RDF statement, the medal was awarded in recognition of their dedication, unwavering professionalism, and outstanding service during the Rwandan blue helmets’ peace support operations in the Central African Republic (CAR), where they are engaged in protecting civilians.

The Commanding Officer of RWABATT12, Lt. Col Joseph Gatabazi, expressed gratitude to the President of CAR for the support offered while implementing their mandate. He commended the resilience displayed by the RWABATT12 troops in ensuring the security of the CAR President.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the CAR government, the head of Rwanda&039;s diplomatic mission in the Central African Republic, Olivier Kayumba, and members of the Rwandan community in the Central African Republic.
